One of my main goals as an esthetician and skin influencer is to educate all genders, but especially men, on the importance of skin care and skin health.
I think before skin care was widely shared on the internet, men thought that having a proper skin-care routine was only for women. What misconceptions do you think people have about how they believe gender plays into skin care, and how do you think or hope Fenty Skin will work to change that? Rihanna has been super vocal about the fact that Fenty Skin is genderless, and that's also quite apparent in the campaigns. Oftentimes Black people, especially Black men, are forgotten about within the skin-care industry, and Fenty Skin didn't forget us. I respect and relate to Rihanna's approach to skin care in making it simple and accessible for everyone. When I learned about Fenty Skin, it was immediately obvious that our outlooks and approach to skin care were aligned. As an esthetician, I always try to make skin care as approachable and accessible as possible. I was really excited to work and partner with Rihanna and Fenty Skin because I truly stand by her mission to deliver healthy, beautiful skin to every skin type, skin tone and gender identity.
What else about Fenty Skin appealed to you and made you want to work with the brand? Me being authentic, truthful and sometimes brutally honest is what has helped me build the amazing community that I have. “Songs with clear beat drops are important because the music inherently makes the listener want to push harder for those 30 to 45 seconds,” she explains, “then provides active recoveries in-between.That's one of the reasons why I was really excited to work with Rihanna and Fenty Skin she's such an involved founder and really prioritizes transparency and honesty with her brands and followers, too.
Meanwhile Gomih likes to switch between pop songs and dancier ones with few lyrics. Seek out songs that make you feel more confident, empowered, sexy, or happy-they’ll keep you moving longer, she explains. “I recommend listening to music that promotes positive self-talk,” Rama says. A song’s speed can also help you keep time, Gomih says for example, runners can sync their pace rate to a certain BPM.īeyond tempo, lyrics also serve as a source of inspiration. Sareena Rama, a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor in Orange County, CA, creates playlists that fluctuate from 100 to 180 BPM, depending on how intensely she’s planning to work out. Gomih recommends focusing most on music at 120 to 140 BPM. Tempo is measured in beats per minute, or BPM. “This translates into getting your heart rate up and better performance,” Gomih explains. On top of inspiring you to work harder without realizing it, says Dilan Gomih, a certified personal trainer and senior director of digital strategy and talent at Barry’s, fast-paced music can also boost your mood. High-tempo music appears to be the most effective for exercise, per the Italian study. What kinds of songs are best during a workout? It might even stave off age-related cognitive decline when paired with exercise, too. In recent years, other studies have shown evidence that music optimizes movements, significantly increases endurance, and keeps us happier during workouts. Energetic songs were especially helpful during endurance exercise. In a study released last year, Italian researchers found that when people listened to high-tempo pop music during exercise, they believed they were putting in less effort for workouts that were actually more intense than those of a control group. The best workout songs don’t just get you in the right headspace or drown out the noise of the gym they can actively improve your performance. But there’s a surprisingly simple solution: music. Finding the motivation to start working out can feel impossible.
